SARomics Biostructures is continuing its expansion with new team members, an updated company logotype, expanded laboratory and office space, and a brand new Protein Shop!
Looking at the rearview mirror, we can see that we were pretty busy in 2019! We are continuing our expansion phase—we added new team members, updated the company logo, expanded our laboratory and office space, and, in keeping with tradition, introduced a new major service offering: the Protein Shop! All of this is thanks to a steady inflow of new projects and customers.
Expansion requires a larger lab space, so we had to search for new locations, which is challenging because Medicon Village is very popular among small local biotech companies in Lund. We aim to move alongside Red Glead Discovery into a new building currently under construction, which is expected to be ready in a few years. We have a close collaboration with Red Glead, and although we are just a few minutes apart by walking, sharing lab and office space will elevate our collaboration to the next level. Last summer, we partnered with Red Glead to acquire the commercial rights to the fragment screening technology Weak Affinity Chromatography (WAC) from Transientic Interactions AB. This was a significant step towards enhancing our fragment screening capabilities. The WAC technology has become one of the cornerstones of our technology platform.
We introduced a new graphical profile featuring a new company logo and a revamped website to celebrate this new phase in the company’s development. One of the most exciting developments at SARomics is the launch of the Protein Shop. The demand for recombinant protein services was apparent, as many of our customers frequently request a sample of the protein they initially wanted to be crystallized and have its structure determined. The introduction of this service has been on the table for some time, but it took a while to organize and implement! Our new off-the-shelf protein catalog currently includes Recombinant human SMARCA2, Recombinant Human SMARCA4, Recombinant Human CLK3, Recombinant Human CD11b (aa 143-337), Recombinant Human ATAD2B, Recombinant Human EPHA7, Recombinant Human GMPR2, Recombinant Human RORG, Recombinant Human PIP4K2A, Recombinant Human PTP1B, and Recombinant Human STK10.
Our most popular crystallography services pipeline has been upgraded to include several protocols that ensure efficient and rapid handling of all new projects. These protocols span all stages, including protein characterization, crystallization, X-ray data collection, and structure determination. Developed primarily within the framework of the EU-funded research project Virus-X, supported by the Horizon 2020 EU program, these protocols, in conjunction with the Protein Shop, considerably enhance the speed of our services.
It is well known that the CRO market is constantly expanding. Many small—to medium-sized biotech companies lack structural biology capabilities and, typically, biophysical expertise, as their core competencies are usually focused on biochemistry and molecular and cell biology. The ever-expanding SARomics Biostructures technology platform is well-equipped to meet these needs by providing reliable structural information at the highest quality level.
